Curves That Must Be Retraced

چکیده
We exhibit a polynomial time computable plane curve Γ that has finite length, does not intersect itself, and is smooth except at one endpoint, but has the following property. For every computable parametrization f of Γ and every positive integer n, there is some positive-length subcurve of Γ that f retraces at least n times. In contrast, every computable curve of finite length that does not intersect itself has a constant-speed (hence non-retracing) parametrization that is computable relative to the halting problem.

Groups of loops and hoops
The approaches to quantum field theories based in the so called loop representation deserved much attention recently. In it, closed curves and holonomies around them play a central role. In this framework the group of loops and the group of hoops have been defined, the first one consisting in closed curves quotient with the equivalence relation that identifies curves differing in retraced segme...
متن کاملThe Potentiodynamic Behavior of Copper in NaCI Solutions Studied by Auger and Photoelectron Spectroscopy
The potentiodynamic behaviour of copper in brine solutions was studies. Auger and photo-electron spectroscopy were used together with electrochemical methods. It is demostrated that the passivation observed in potentiodynamic curves is due to a surface film formation on a copper electrode. It is concluded that this film must be copper (I) chloride in nature. Effect of different factors on poten...
متن کاملEffect of different yield functions on computations of forming limit curves for aluminum alloy sheets
In this article, the effect of different yield functions on prediction of forming limit curve (FLC) for aluminum sheet is studied. Due to importance of FLC in sheet metal forming, concentration on effective parameters must be considered exactly in order to have better theoretical prediction comparing experimental results. Yield function is one of the factors which are improved by adding new coe...
متن کاملEncouraging 5-year olds to attend to landmarks: a way to improve children's wayfinding strategies in a virtual environment
Wayfinding is defined as the ability to learn and remember a route through an environment. Previous researchers have shown that young children have difficulties remembering routes. However, very few researchers have considered how to improve young children's wayfinding abilities. Therefore, we investigated ways to help children increase their wayfinding skills. In two studies, a total of 72 5-y...
متن کاملOPTIMAL NOZZLE SHAPES OF CO2-N2-H2O GASDYNAMIC LASERS
In an axisymmetric CO2-N2-H2O gas dynamic laser, let ? denote the intersection of the vertical plane of symmetry with the upper part of the (supersonic) nozzle. To obtain a maximal small signal gain, some authors have tested several families of curves for ?. To find the most general solution for ?, an application of Pontryagin’s principle led to the conjuncture that the optimal ? must consist o...
